Let me tell you a story about a guy i knew
about a man who served in WWII
And while he was overseas
got his leg blown off by the japanese
and as he stood there looking down
he saw his leg laying on the ground
and as he fell to his knee
he wrapped his nub to stop the bleeding
He said well i better go
if i wanna live with all five toes
so he grabbed a stick as a crutch for now
and hobbled back to his pals
the next day they sent him back
to the midwest, Illinois in fact
and as he left the hospital
he had his prosthetic leg in tow
and this is were it gets good
on a drunken night in his neighborhood
he lost that leg in a bet
and crawled to his home in the cul de sac
and the next day he went to fish
in the sangamon, a great place to fish
and with the biggest strike of luck
he found that leg laying by a rock
and as he went back to the town
all the people said
where'd you get that leg?
i found it down by the sangamon

we successfully escaped
we're on a prison break

so we got the hell out of dodge
we are kings, we are thieves, we are gods
with ourselves free we changed our lives for good
but one day there came a judge
and he smashed his gavel on us
so now were back in the hole
for life

things didn't quite work out
money didn't come so easily
from the land he fertilized and plowed

about the meager life they lived
his wife's attitude wouldn't change
she'd live any life with him
here we have an old man
sitting all alone
holding an old picture in his hand
but he cant look at it
picture makes his sad
got his money now
only wants what he had

on july 9th that day
families bought their tickets and loaded on the train
and as they found their seats
they lit their cigarettes
these are the times
the times their gunna miss
it was the great train wreck of 1918
101 dead the rest were carried off the scene
before the trains collided the conductor tipped his hat
and said its been a good life but i ain't coming back
and as the engines collided
and the wooden cars crashed
only 10 miles from the homes that they knew last
and the papers blamed the railroad for the mess
only one human error caused the lives of those who passed
